Every once in a while I get a mail from a reader with a beautiful home and when I saw Divya Vijay Ramanan's beautiful home in Ranchi I knew I wanted to share it with all of you. What caught my eye was how harmoniously everything came together in this home & ofcourse the beautiful Krishna Tanjore painting. In Divy'a own words, "I am not sure whether you have seen any Army home- I should have actually sent you a "before" picture too:-) To put it mildly, it was quite sad, but we have tried to beautify it as much as we could! The lights and carpets are to camoflauge the walls and floors :-)" I did ask if she had before pictures, but no such luck :)
The lights throw a glow across the walls, it is interesting that Divya has placed the lamps below the table and not above. The shelves on either side hold her extensive silver collection.
The gold embroidered cushions are from a boutique in Calcutta & the painting is from Divya's moms home town, Tanjore.

wonderful...the uniformity of the teak based wood colour used is great...tanjore paintings is the best..i write about them in my space at times..they add glamour...

Deepa's home is really nice. I love the way she has placed the table lamps on the floor. It gives the room a soft glow and highlights the lines of her exquisite furniture
Note : I IPOD dock looks like it has been kept out of reach from young kids :)
Oh we have lived in huge Army houses when we were growing up and yes, there are many interesting stories, but mostly fond nostalgia:-)

All this was picked up from a shop in bikaner.. it is not even a proper shop I guess- definitely not one of these great looking furniture boutiques... my husband said it was a warehouse kind of place and he had to actually go into a dusty store room to pick some of the pieces. Husband is out of town for couple of months.. not sure whether he still has the owner's phone number. Let me check with him and get back to you.

Dear Divya the way you and your husband have done up your home is very impressive. I travel quite often and should start collecting little artefacts from each place we stay or live for future display in my dream home when we come back to India,some day. Would love to know which furniture shop you went to in Bikaner if possible. Living an army life, your 'bat man'/domestic help probably helps in dusting and cleaning.......a luxury other civilians are slowly having to relinquish.Best Wishes Ramya

Yes, it is a good idea to collect stuff from every place you visit - I have been doing that over the past ten years.. in fact I rush to the curio shops first before even seeing the place :-) You seem to know about Army life quite a lot. Yes we do have help around the house, so it is definitely easier to maintain the house and entertain guests. Hubby is currently in a non-contactable place.. so I don't have the phone number of the furniture wala.. but here is the website of a similar furniture maker in Bikaner.
