Paper art, embroidery, space age, christmas, and no wait - a bloody stuffed elephant, and then the menagerie! Where does all this come together you are wondering. We are talking window displays. If you think this is an extension of harmless window shopping -think again. This is clearly where advertising's cutting edge is at. Yes. The window. And there's some serious art and some even more serious fun happening here.

Beginning with the sane ones

Till here we saw pretty, now begins the fun.
.Macy's Christmas window display @ Union Square was all sci-fci

Its amazing to see crafty techniques scaled up so effectively.

Below is whatever picture I could take without a million people walking across it. Its was bang at Union Square where we waited for the cable car. JOY IT UP is what the complete window reads like. Take a closer look!

I'm so excited to share with you this new Banner design- not mine, but a new design I did for the charming Gillian Da Silva of The Dreaming Press fame. I did a couple of options, but the last one did it for me :) I love it & almost wish I'd done it for myself. I've known Gillian since I started blogging 2 years back & it was such a beautiful surpise when she commissioned me to design her blog banner.

I first used a vintage map as a background cause Gillian loves to travel.

Then tried some font options

And finally settled on this simpler by way cooler version- I've still included a bit of the border of the map because I didn't want to ditch it altogether. Go check her blog guys, its full of well written humour, charm and Gillian's beautiful photography.

This message is for me. Cause guess who got briefed on a completely brilliant project recently & guess who has not moved ass on it? Yours truly has been doing everything else with great efficiency except this one thing which she knows will probably change everything for her. Does this happen to you as well? That something is so important for you & you don't do anything about it? So I sat to work with "Do it NOW" firmly in my head & thought of making a quick design & sharing it with all of you. Who knows who might see this today & who it might help. If there's something you've wanted to do badly, but pushed it under the carpet & you feel sick even thinking about it. This is for you. Save it on your comp. Print it out- stick it on your softboard- whatever works for you. See you guys soon- after I've started work on my project :)

I am Runjhun Jain's biggest fan. And I will refuse to relinquish that position despite the numerous and humongous fan clubs that might be formed in her favour in the future. I have said it here on record. Hear. Runjhun has to be the most creative person I've had the privilege of knowing and loving. And I'm glad she is finally doing the kind of work that I always say only she can do. Runjhun draws like most of us make conversation- without thinking too much about it, simply, effortlessly and in her own inimitable style. While the rest of us effort and try to do cool work, Runjhun's work simply IS.

Do click on the image to see it in all its glory. I *LOVE* the 'Alien doing Yoga'.

Just look at her little potted plants, one of her guys in air, the books, pebbles and the omlette fry

Love: Endless chitter chatter, its in the air

I just *heart* her beautiful typo

Winter. Attack of the turnips.

Lost in translation: her mad characters with an Indian twist.

'Whatever' :)

Her people sketches are what I love the best though

These are sketches of friends

Pals

and loved ones.

I love her sense of colour. Sigh...

My house has looked like a godown for the better part of last month. The sight of many plywood boxes was a nightmare and a joy. It meant many empty canvasses but TONS of work. I am just slowly recovering from all that frenetic activity. Running to office each morning and coming home at night to my 2nd shift. I waited for my weekends like my life depended on it, because it really did. But man, did I have fun! :) Here's a look at some of the boxes and trays I designed/decoupaged.

Stage1: plywood boxes, trays and coasters

Stage 2: Painted trays are now ready to be worked on.

Painting the handles and sides 1st.

They are now decoupaged and ready!!

This is one of my favourites- The 'cuttlefish' tray

This was another popular design.

One of my friends told me to use this 'Indiaaah series' design here.

This was a ceiling I photographed at the Junagad fort, with the Sun God right in the middle.

The blue trays: The one on the left is an antique tile I photographed in Rajasthan.

And here are my decoupaged boxes. I had SO MUCH fun doing them! :)

Pink circular design box.

This one is my personal fav. The 'Hair Stories' box. My mom and me sang this limerick a lot in my childhood :) "Once when we were sitting, around the family group, My fathers awful whiskers, got tangled in the soup" So when I was designing this box, putting this verse in made it so much more fun for me :)

Pink ornamental design box.
Each side has a different ornament on it.

The Black Misfits Box.

And here is a very Rajasthani Box, designed by putting together a lot of my Jaipur City Palace pictures. I knew it will look beautiful. And it did.

I had fun painting on the details with gold paint.
