Tagged!

I've been tagged. And to my embarrassment have figured that I can't write about myself with half the ease that I write my regular posts. Confession: for inspiration I have scoured some half a dozen blogs to figure how they've done theirs. I even apologised to fellow blogger Angie of Studio Wellspring who tagged me, for taking my time with this. Angie is a Hugely talented designer who also loves dancing is quite the tango dancer. Do check her happening blog here- one never knows what she's going to post about next.
Ok the rules/nitty gritty (??!!) of the game are : link to the person who tagged you and post the rules on your blog. share seven random and/or weird things about yourself. tag seven people[ideally- if not the sky wont come crashing down :)] at the end of your post and include links to their blogs. let each person know they have been tagged by leaving a comment on their blog.

Here's my random list about me -
Im a sunlight junkie- can't get enough of it. I can walk in the sun ALL day- if I had the time. I actually dislike the rains because there is not enough sun then.
I also love walking- so much, that I end up wearing sneakers half the time cause- there's no substitute to being comfortable :)

These are pics I took one evening on my way back from a shoot (film city- goregaon)

This in turn dictates my wardrobe- what goes with sneakers? Jeans and t shirts? well what can I say... I seem to have got my dress sense bottoms up! Not to forget my rucksack into which EVERYTHNG goes, my books, my camera and even a spare top and sandals in case I go out at night ;) I've even created a design called 'sneaker freaker' (yes, those are my legs! :))I have a fantasy- that a day will come when I have LOADS of time- to walk the streets of the city I live in- to take the many beautiful pictures it makes, to walk into a theatre and catch a movie- just because I HAVE time... what a concept! And I swear I'll spend an entire day just taking pictures of railway stations, I find them limitlessly exciting.

Im a contrast girl- fusion child. I love contrasts and drama & extremes. Which means the pictures I take has LOADS of it. (Which also means I love evening light) which means I can like 2 very different things at the same time. Mix and match- works for me. Fonts and typography are a thing with me. There's something about the power of a letter- classically well formed or roughly written or drawn with long strokes. Fonts are like symbols, simple to look at maybe, but laden with meaning. Latent with potential. Put together in the right way they can convey with magic most things on gods earth. I LOVE antique Indian jewellery. Pure eyecandy- with a generous dose of history. That’s an irresistable combination. When I take pictures ( And I take a LOT of them) they are invariably angles and straight lines. Very few people if at all and no flowers whatsoever. (God knows what that says of me! something I'm not sure I want to know...) And talking of photography, guys, Im looking to upgrade- and am debating between an SLR ( never used one before) and maybe the latest in the non-SLR point and shoot options. Can't make up my mind. Please feel free to advice me on this- Infact I'm asking, so do put down your take on it.

I'm happy to tag Calie of Nohea Lookbook, Peggy of CreativeInfluences, Sas of Interior Inspiration, Roma of DesignFlute and Masala Chai all of who are wonderfully warm & inspiringly creative people I've had the fortune to meet post blogging :)

Lovely post... had fun reading it...

About the camera...

my personal opinion would be start with a good prosumer like a
Panasonic FZ50, or
Canon s5IS, or
Sony H9

My personal favorite of the three canon because its compact and powerful... sony at the bottom because its screen is too good and when you see the same pictures on a computer screen, they don't look that good...

Panasonic has grains when you click in low light, but is good built, and feels like an SLR when you are using it because of its built...

Basically, you get the same features and capability in money half of an SLR... allows you to spend sometime trying out what you want to click... and then you can move to a mast dSLR...

Enjoy...

Hey Vineeta,

Thanks for the tag ! What camera do you use currently? Your images are pretty good for them not being DSLR images. I HIGHLY suggest the Canon 400D , I was talked into buying one by someone who is a cinematographer . It's a very GOOD starter camera , that you can accessorize as you get better .

About the Tag , I'd love to do a similar thing , complete with images & what not but maybe in a couple of days.

BTW I love your posts on kerela, makes me feel very nostalgic & crave my grandums cooking which I miss insanely.I can literally SMELL the coconut oil when I see those bricked tiles

btw, you can call me Pav or Pavitra (or powerpuff, lol)

Hi Vineeta,
Just read your nice blog and couldnt resist writing a comment, especially on two things you mentioned.

First the camera; anybody with an eye like you should definitely definitely go ahead and buy a DSLR...eyes closed (pun intended)! There's so much more one can play around with lenses... ok lemme not start on a gyan spree right away. But jokes apart, will definitely love to share my limited knowledge on this one.

Secondly your love for fonts and typography...
Have noticed a lot of these old shop signboards in Crawford Market area in Mumbai, interesting old styles and fonts, sepia toned with age and the like. Have always been fascinated by them, but sadly never had a cam when i lived in that city, and now never get the time although i keep making occasional brief visits. But a photoseries on them is definitely on my immediate to do list.
Do make a tour if the idea interests you.
regards,

rajib

Yes, about the camera-
I have a Canon EOS 350D a fantastic DSLR...I am absolutely happy with it, but there are times like in a traffic signal or while shopping or in a restaurant when you want to capture something on an impulse, I wish for a point & shoot which you can slide into your handbag but at the same time give me mind blowing images:-))

Knowing your style of photography ( capturing things while you walk around exploring;-) you might want to keep that in mind:-))

Hey Sunshine girl,

First of all let me say Tathastu!for all your wishes and fantasies!

You can call me up for your long walks in the sun!
loved and enjoyed all about you and Photos. Agree with Arch- I imagined you like this only!

It is good to see your designs! You have put your designs for the first time, I suppose (correct me!).

And yes tagging! Thanks!
But you know what my first thoughts are-let me run away! And I also think how many would be really interested in knowing about me. But I promise I will try- just give me a couple of days.(thanks for the tagging-homework.)

vineeta said...

powerpuff! :) Thanx for the tip off on the camera- and the compliment :) Looks like Im again getting conflicting advice! well...
Looking forward to your tagged post whenever u put it up- God knows I took my own time :)
About the Kerala posts- thanx- U a Mal by any chance? :)

vineeta said...

Raj, its great that you dropped by & actually dropped a comment here :) A lot of people read the blog I guess but till you comment I wont really know & Im always happy to hear from people :) thanx for the definite advice.
And also the idea of photographing signages- I've been thinking on similar lines myself- I've done a series on truck graphics which I must put up- either on flickr or here :)

vineeta said...

Archana, U r right :) one's personality does show up through ones work & you've been clued into this space for a while & you ARE fairly perceptive- so no new news :( But I guess I wasn't really ready to share more than this- everything seemed to personal to share - or maybe Im too private- god knows. It was agony enough writing this much! :)

And about the dilema -you just said it- I do a lot of my photography on the go & truth to be told Im also slightly pertified of using an SLR I dont know how easy I will find it. Im willing to learn. Anything for the sexy results one gets when using an SLR.

vineeta said...

style addicts, thanx for saying what u did :) I just hopped across to your space & there's a lot of interesting stuff there as well. Will come again for a better read :)

vineeta said...

designflute u r right- this is the 1st time I've shown any of my work here :) I was speaking about myself so it seemed relevant. And I SO understand the 'let me run away' feeling. But its fun & just go for it & we'd sure LOVE to know more about you :)

Ah, I get it. There is a lag between my google reader and your blog. Anyway, thank you for thinking of me. I'll have to put something together over the next few days.

I loved your reveal. Especially your love of walking and sunny days. The poster for your sneakers is pretty cool too!

It's wonderful to learn more about you.

vineeta said...

liberty post editor, after reading your comment- I looked at the post again & wondered what inspired the comment- then I figured I have featured this brilliant piece of typography which is NOT MY WORK at all! Im sorry if you assumed it was mine- but yes the rest is done by me the pics & the sneaker freaker design & if you still mean it- thanx :)

vineeta said...

Calie, great! looking forward to your tagged post :) & about the 'sneaker freaker' thanx! coming from a designer Im flattered :)

I like when you write " to walk the city that you live in". In every city that I have lived in, I walk the city on weekends during summer, of course because the sun is up till 8. I set out after brunch and am on my feet for a good 8-10 hours walking and seeing the city's ethnic neighbourhoods.During college I used to hop on bus from one corner to the other and walk back
These days I try to hike in the green, than the city sights that I did when I was younger.
But both are good. Good luck walking and enjoying your town. I have found many a secret treasures - bakeries that where one can eat freshly baked bread right out of the oven. A store where one can customize their bags.right in my own neigbourhood.

A pedestrian's life is filled with more surprises than somebody who hops in their car to make errands.

vineeta said...

Anrosh, you won't believe me if I say this- just today morning I was thinking of you and wondering where you had gone- and here u are!
yes, I have the luxury of walking only when I travel- which is why I love it as much. In my own place my time is all slotted with the 20 thousand things one has to do. But one day I will figure out my life enough to do all the things I want to :)

luvstonz said...

Try the Cannon G9 it offer most of the benefits of a dslr, and can be used as a point and shoot...and the size is small enough to carry in a regular purse! I love this one and take it when travelling OR don't feel like lugging the big DSLR's....Good Luck

i didn't saw the answer to your comment until today. someday when i am in bombay, you can tell me the secret of getting the chunky jewellery in bombay while i will collect some from bhilai (chattisgarh) and west bengal and the north east ( that is what i am hoping)
